A lot of women get put off lifting weights because they are afraid they will end up looking "bulky" but I'm here to tell you that is simply not the case.
For a start, women do not have the same hormone set up as males. We are not designed to bulk up easily. Now before you go searching the internet and throw images at me of "bulky" women, I acknowledge they exist- however it takes a LOOOOOOONG time for them to put on that kind of muscle, and yes, some women are genetically able to bulk up quicker than others but they are not the norm.
How we want to look is a personal journey, and hey if bulking up is your thing then be prepared to put in the hard years and hard work. If however you do not want to do that then guess what? You are in total control of your weightlifting journey. Because the muscle will not happen over night (I wish) you can choose to hit the maintenance button at any stage you are happy with what you have created :) Cool huh?
Personally, I would love to be able to put on muscle more easily. I love how I look when I have muscle. But it has taken me many years to get where I am now. (small break in between but that's another story for another day). I am not unhappy with how I look now but I would also be happier with more, so I continue but when/if I get to the point that I am content with my "look" I will just maintain what I have.
I will be writing another blog soon on the benefits for women that lift, but for starters the more muscle you have - guess what? the more you can eat and that's gotta be a good thing right?
So, relax..... you wont look like Arnie unless that's your thing! You are in control :)
